QFC Grocery Basket 5/7

Miss MoneyPenny loves May!!  If you are a gardener this is a very exciting month.  Actually I always thought it was a great month when I was just chasing men back in the day and not doing a lick of gardening.

Anyway, lately I've been focusing my attention on the veggies so the front beds really could use a good weeding but when I stand back and squint my eyes everything looks beautiful.  As you can see the Cherokee Chief Dogwood has busted out into bloom and makes everybody else look gorgeous around him.  I'm so glad that I moved him from the middle of the yard where he was so depressed I thought for sure that I was going to lose him.

Check out these big boys that I dug out of the garden today.  I was weeding the old potato bed from last year so I must have missed them or they were so small I ignored them.  I'm looking forward to eating them.  They are not even on the same planet when compared with store bought.

Speaking of store bought - let's take a look at the ad for this week.  Fresh halibut is on this week for $16.99 per pound.  If you love it, as I do, grab it before it is gone as the season doesn't seem to be very long.

Here are my suggestions:

Chobani Greek Yogurt - $1/5.3oz
Ribeye Steak - $6.99/lb
Draper Valley B/S Chicken Breast - BOGO
Wild Alaska Halibut Fillets - $16.99/lb
Asparagus - $1.99/lb
Cucumbers - $ .68/ea
Green Bell Peppers - $ .68/ea
Driscoll's Strawberries - $2/16oz
Large Navel Oranges - $ .99/lb
Tomatoes on the Vine - $1.99/lb
Sweet Vidalia Onions - $ .99/lb

Reminder:

See that little green round bush to the left of the dogwood??  That is an Autumn Joy and it is a joy in autumn, especially if you prune it by a third in June.  If you don't do this it will get the floppsies.  I know.  I didn't believe it either because it seems like you would be cutting off all the flowering part but this works.  Trust me. Remember - PRUNE IN JUNE.
